MADRID, Spain, 2 April, 2009 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) the global leader in public and institutional TETRA networks, today announced that it has installed a total of 400 TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) sites across Spain as at the end of 2008 – a figure which represents 32% of every TETRA network installed throughout the country, including twenty institutional as well as private clients, who choose Motorola for their experience and technical expertise in installing mission critical networks.
Throughout 2008, Motorola’s Government & Public Safety business signed new contracts with Local Authorities in Gijón and Oviedo, as well as extending existing ones such as AENA at Barcelona Airport for the supply of TETRA networks. Each of these deployed networks required more than 100 base stations and had more than 21,000 subscribers across Spain.
“The TETRA networks constitute a vital line of communications to guarantee secure and instantaneous access to voice and data services for policemen and policewomen, fire fighters and ambulance personal, and many other professional users around the world,” says Rafael Canales, sales director for TETRA solutions, Motorola Government and Public Safety, Spain.
Motorola TETRA Terminals
Motorola is a world leader in public security networks, and with 80 years experience behind it. Motorola is the world´s largest TETRA supplier and offers a complete portfolio of Motorola solutions including infrastructure, terminals, applications and services. Motorola supplies 450 TETRA projects in over 80 countries and has recently announced its shipment of the 1millionth TETRA radio.
Motorola’s TETRA terminal and equipment portfolio, features key products including the MTP850 portable radio. The compact, robust and lightweight MTP850 supports numerous functions to increase the user’s security and is designed to provide maximum security and the highest levels of audio quality in noisy surroundings. The MTP850 terminal incorporates the highest range TETRA encryption, and it’s WAP functionality provides instantaneous access to the database for transmitting multi-shot data packs as well as permitting maximum speed for TETRA data transmission.
This terminal comes in another, intrinsically secure version – the MTP850Ex. It offers the same performance in voice and data as the MTP850 terminal, but it also complies to the ATEX (ATmosphere EXplosive) standard, providing users with safe and reliable communications in potentially dangerous surroundings. It has the highest level of ATEX certification for explosive gases and dust presently available on the market. ATEX is a European obligatory standard which certifies that equipment is suitable for use in potentially dangerous surroundings.
Another notable terminal is the TCR100, the smallest TETRA radio in the world, designed for clandestine operations. Its reduced and lightweight design (it only weighs 180 grams) means that it can be hidden in clothing. It includes the standards applicable for this type of network and has integrated GPS. It also includes specific features for the unique requirements of clandestine operations, such as discrete audio, autonomous radio control and long life battery.
Motorola is committed to the innovation and development of TETRA platforms, which includes the creation of applications and solutions that offer users integrated voice and data services. Motorola is a key contributor to the continuous development of TETRA standards, including TETRA version 2 services like TETRA Enhanced Data (TEDS), the specification for the next generation designed to provide higher speeds for data transmission.
