Motorola Deploys Enhanced TETRA Communications Network at Alicante Airport

May 28, 2009

MADRID, Spain – 28 May 2009 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that it has won a contract to provide AENA Alicante Airport with an advanced TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) digital radio system to support and improve operations throughout the site. By deploying TETRA infrastructure in the airport, indoor and outdoor radio communication between ground staff, airport officials and other workers will be significantly improved.

Partnering with Amper Sistemas, Motorola will role out its Dimetra IP solution, enhanced IP-based TETRA technology that is highly flexible and scalable and is able to support voice, messaging, and mobile applications—including remote access to information databases and image transmission—over a single network.

“Alicante is a popular tourist destination in Spain and the airport has seen increased traffic over the years so we needed to find a solution that could enhance indoor and outdoor communication between all airport workers and was quick and easy to deploy,“ said Miguel Sancho, Managing Director, Amper Sistemas. “We knew the Motorola Dimetra IP technology would be cost-effective, ultra secure and highly efficient. The Motorola solution is also scalable so as the airport grows the technology can support the growing needs.”

More than 80 airports, including many of the busiest airports worldwide, have used Motorola’s radio communications solutions specially tailored for the airport environment. Alicante airport is the fourth in Spain which utilises Motorola TETRA technology to improve communication in and around the airport site.

"More and more airport operators worldwide are looking for efficient and failsafe communications to improve operating efficiency and ensure passenger safety. It is testament to our leadership in both public safety and operational communications solutions that we have won a further airport contract. Working with Amper Sistemas and Alicante airport, a third win in Spain, reflects the growing demand for Motorola TETRA solutions in the industrial, commercial and transportation markets,” said Manuel Torres, vice president and general manager, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions - Government business, EMEA.
