Motorola, Inc.’s Home & Networks Mobility business today announced that its LTE Evolved Packet Core (EPC) and advanced Self-Organizing Network (SON) solutions have been named recipients of the 2009 4GWE LTE Visionary Award by The Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC), a global integrated media company, in conjunction with Crossfire Media.
Motorola’s LTE SON is designed to help operators reduce operational expenses from day one of the deployment of their LTE network. Motorola’s advanced SON is a 3GPP Release 8 standards-compliant solution that draws upon the company’s long history in network autonomics (self-management) research and extensive expertise in planning, deploying, optimizing and managing commercial wireless networks. It includes a host of advanced features, improved architecture and leading algorithms that go beyond specifications in the standards.
Motorola’s advanced SON has been part of live demonstrations of its LTE trial system at its facilty in Swindon since July 2009 and has shown:
- automatic neighbor relationship including fast initial neighbor identification
- live LTE mobility demonstrated enabled by SON
- continuous neighbor optimization
- automated eNodeB to eNodeB X2 link provisioning and IP Transport configuration
- SON ANR module algorithm optimization driven by mobile data, and
- efficiency and accuracy of SON solution resulting in greatly reduced latency of changes
Motorola’s LTE EPC is comprised of the company’s mobility management entity (MME), packet and serving gateways (P-GW and S-GW), and a policy and charging rules function server (PCRF). The EPC is a new foundation for next generation mobile broadband that provides a core network to support hosted applications, heavy multimedia content and high-speed Internet connectivity on the go. Motorola's award-winning EPC dedicated control and bearer core architecture that includes its industry leading MME, gives operators the flexibility, performance and capacity they’ll need to effectively operate their future LTE networks.
The 4GWE LTE Visionary Award has been bestowed upon companies that demonstrated the planning and vision of delivering wireless broadband services to support different and unique communities of interest.
